The Friends of Kersal Dale have been working closely with Salford City Council and the Salford Rangers team to plan some improvements and development work.
We have moved the barrier at the South Radford Street entrance to a place which makes the possibility of fly-tipping much more difficult. In September we'll have new entrance signs and notice boards at various entrances to the Dale with information for visitors. This will be followed up later on by wooden way-finding signs within the woods. Work on repairing the sink hole and steps at the Radford Street entrance should commence on the 27th of August. This is likely to involve closing the footpath and work is expected to last 1-2 weeks. We've started work with TCV (The Conservation Volunteers). The Friends group has purchased a sizeable amount of wild flower seeds TCV will be creating some small areas of Wild Flower Meadow on a couple of patches on the edge of the main meadow area. This will involve removing the turf and a few inches of topsoil so the seeds can be spread & established. Cornflower & Poppies should flower next year and then from year 2 a wider variety of plants that attract butterflies & moths should appear. Temporary no camping/no fires signs have been put up until a more permanent solution can be found. Fires should be reported to the police/fire. We are continuing work on the clearing of vegetation down the steps up to Vine Street. Motorbikes have been using the site again, please report to GMP online or https://www.salford.gov.uk/crime-reduction-and-emergencies/put-the-brakes-on-illegal-riders/ The gate by Garden Needs has been locked to reduce bikes getting on here.
